..10 INTRODUCTION Kenwood Communication Corporation has recently released 80 Series Version 2 radios with some New added FleetSync™* features. FleetSync™ is a two-way paging protocol that extends communication capability in the 80-Series family of radios. This application guide is designed to help you understand its features and show you how they may be implemented in a radio system.
FleetSync Application Guide ABOUT FLEETSYNC FleetSync is a signaling protocol that is integrated into Kenwood’s 80-Series line of radios to work with the on-board modem for signal modulation over the air-waves via two transceivers. Furthermore, the modem is linked with the radio’s CPU for serial communication between the radio and a PC.

11. Most FleetSync PC applications and some peripheral equipment (e.g., ANI decoder display units) may require the FleetSync PC Serial Control feature to communicate with the Kenwood 80-Series mobile unit, especially the base radio. For instance, the base station 80-Series radio will require the FleetSync PC Serial Control function when a PC is running CAD software, and therefore the FleetSync “Enhanced”...
Version 2. These radios can be identified by the logos located on the radio front panel. The mobile units logo has been changed from a white Kenwood logo to a Orange logo. The portables Kenwood logo’s triangle [above the “W”] has been changed from white to orange. The Model/FCC ID label will read Ver- 2.
Usage and an Application. Numerous FleetSync applications are possible with support software and peripheral equipment. For further information, refer to the FleetSync programming Guide available from Dealer Tools or contact Kenwood Technical Support. PTT ID / DIGITAL ANI CALLING Definition: PTT ID or PTT ANI ( Alpha numeric identifie r) is a FleetSync feature that will identify a radio on transmit.
80 Series Version 2 FleetSync Application Guide BASIC FEATURE SET APPLICATIONS (continued) CALLER ID (CID) Definition: The FleetSync PTT ID can be displayed on the front panel of the radio by enabling the Feature “CALLER ID DISPLAY” Usage The ANI information of the transmitting radio can be displayed on the receiving radios front panel identifying the user who is talking.
80 Series Version 2 FleetSync Application Guide BASIC FEATURE SET APPLICATIONS (continued) SELECTIVE Alert / Individual Call Definition: FleetSync protocol will allow a user to select and alert a radio that a call has been received. This will keep the other radio users in the same talk group from hearing unwanted radio conversations.
80 Series Version 2 FleetSync Application Guide BASIC FEATURE SET APPLICATIONS (continued) SELECTIVE Alert / Fleet Call Definition: FleetSync protocol will allow a user to select and alert a specific fleet of radios that a call has been received. This will keep the other radios that are not within the same Fleet from hearing conversations.
80 Series Version 2 FleetSync Application Guide BASIC FEATURE SET APPLICATIONS (continued) only and SelCall is used to set off alert responses in a particular unit or groups of units when needed. b. Use AND if fleet units are to remain muted until both valid QT/DQT/LTR signaling and a SelCall are received (i.e., the units are operated in a selective call “page”...
80 Series Version 2 FleetSync Application Guide BASIC FEATURE SET APPLICATIONS (continued) Figure 4 NOTE: In shared systems, Supervisor Calling should be carefully implemented so that all user groups with the same ID number are not called inadvertently. In both shared and private radio systems, Fleet/ID number organization and programming parameters such as Inter-Fleet Call, Manual Dial, and Unit ID Encode Block can be used to control Selective Calling capabilities of each FleetSync radio.
80 Series Version 2 FleetSync Application Guide BASIC FEATURE SET APPLICATIONS (continued) Figure 5 STATUS MESSAGING General Dispatch Definition: Transmits a Pre-Defined (Dealer Programmable) Status Message to a specific radio or group of radios. Usage: Rather than tying up a radio system with voice communications, a simple dispatch message will help make all users more efficient.
80 Series Version 2 FleetSync Application Guide BASIC FEATURE SET APPLICATIONS (continued) Figure 6 Note: When sending Status to groups of radios, the “Complete” acknowledgement will not display. Emergency Alert Definition: FleetSync radios can send an Emergency Message telling the targeted radio that a user is in trouble.
80 Series Version 2 FleetSync Application Guide BASIC FEATURE SET APPLICATIONS (continued) Figure 7 NOTES: 1. The “Emergency Calling” features operate in conjunction with FleetSync Emergency Status Message decoding. See the “FleetSync Programming Guide” for details. 2. Emergency Calling can only be done to a particular Fleet/ID. Broadcast, Group and Supervisor calls are not supported.

80 Series Version 2 FleetSync Application Guide Figure 8 NOTES: 1. Stun can be set to inhibit transmit only or both transmit and receive speaker audio. 2. Stun “commands” (i.e., Status No.’s 90-94 in a special reserved block 80-99) can be inhibited on fleet units (i.e., limited to base mobile units only).
L-905 – L907 Order FleetSync Dealer enhanced retrofit kit (See Price Pages) The FleetSync Enhanced Option can be enabled at Kenwood or can be retrofitted in the field. Please see LMR price pages for FleetSync Enhanced Option installation Labor Codes.
80 Series Version 2 FleetSync Application Guide ENHANCED FEATURE SET APPLICATIONS (continued) SHORT TEXT MESSAGING Definition: A 48 Character Alphanumeric message can be sent to a radio. Usage: Names/Phone Numbers/Addresses etc., can be sent to a radio without tying up valuable airtime.
Figure 10 NOTE: An 80-Series Kenwood radio is limited to sending and receiving a maximum of one (1) Long Text Message of up to 1,024 alphanumeric characters in length. FleetSync-compatible dispatch software and mobile data devices are required to send and/or receive and store more than one Long Text Message.
Application Software. Please see LMR price pages for FleetSync Enhanced Application Software. A Kenwood 80-Series mobile radio can use raw NMEA-0183 location data from a GPS receiver, and then encode this information with standard NMEA-0183 header words, FleetSync ID numbers, and/or Status with the NMEA-0183 location information. This packetized data is then sent over-the-air to a compatible base station via a modulated signal created by the mobile radio’s...
